Want to Know a Little About Me? Here You Go.

The Early Years

I was born and raised in Eunice, Louisiana, in the heart of Cajun Country. For the first eight years of my life, I was an only child. Since we lived on a 200 acre farm, there were no other kids close by to play with, so my imagination became my best friend.

Needless to say, this led to my love of reading and writing.

Finding My Way

Just after high school, I got married and had a baby. Two years later, I had another. Determined to move beyond the housewife role I found myself in, I began trying to get published.

At the time, I was writing fiction, but had no luck getting published. It would be another ten years before I figured out that I was better at nonfiction. But, I completed a Writer's Digest short story writing course and continued to write.

Unfortunately, I got derailed. First by the breakup of my marriage (a blessing in disguise), then by trying to figure out how to support myself and two school-age children with only a high school education.

What did I do? I went to college. Two years later, I graduated with highest honors with my Associates Degree in paralegal studies. By this time, I'd met a wonderful man, remarried and looked forward to a bright future.

Problem was, I didn't enjoy the legal field. Too political. Too stressful. Eight years in and I was ready for a change.

I went back to school.

Today
Mary Klaebel
Today, I have my Bachelors Degree in communications - technical writing - and am pursuing a Masters. I run this website and another as well as coach local students and business people on improving their writing skills.

In addition, I've been published online, held a senior editorial position for a local paralegal newsletter and written one book, with more in the pipeline.

It has been a long, meandering journey to get where I am today, but I'm grateful for all that I've learned along the way.

The Future

What does the future hold? I don't know. But I do know that plan to continue learning, growing and helping others to do the same.
