Quick Tips for Effective Essays

When writing essays a few mistakes can distract the reader from the meaning.

  • Always remember, when introducing a person refer to that person by their full name. Further along in the paper only use that person's last name.

  • It's is a contraction for it is. It should not be used possessively.

  • Your thesis should be a "should and because" statement. This gives your essay an argument.

An essay MUST have an argument.

  • Lastly, the best advice anyone can receive: practice makes perfect. You cannot improve as a writer if you do not write.

Reading examples of good works of literature will also make you a better writer.
I hope this helps.
